There seems to be a growing number of high street retailers offering commission-free foreign currency. But is there a catch?

Of course there is. The last few years have seen almost all foreign currency providers switching to the 'commission-free' model, making up for it by offering less competitive exchange rates. It's definitely worth shopping around - a recent survey by Travelex of 14 foreign currency providers found nearly ¤40 difference between the amount offered on £500. We trawled the internet and called high street banks and bureaux de changes last Thursday, asking how much 500 Euros would cost us. The cheapest deal we found was £349.65 from commission free exchange service Interchange FX, ........
