Information about the Bermuda Dollar

Currency
Bermuda Dollar (BMD; symbol BD$) = 100 cents. Notes are in denominations of BD$100, 50, 20, 10, 5 and 2. Coins are in denominations of BD$1, and 25, 10, 5 and 1 cents.
Note : The Bermuda Dollar is at par with the US Dollar.
Currency exchange
US Dollars are generally accepted at parity. It is illegal to exchange money other than at authorised banks or bureaux de change.
Credit & debit cards
American Express, MasterCard and Visa are accepted at most large hotels, shops and restaurants.
Traveller's cheques
US Dollar cheques are widely accepted. To avoid additional exchange rate charges, travellers are advised to take traveller's cheques in US Dollars.
Currency restrictions
There is no limit to the import of local or foreign currency, provided declared on arrival. Unless especially authorised, the export of local currency is limited to BD$250. There is no limit to the export of foreign currency. A police officer may seize and detain any cash which is being imported into or exported from Bermuda if the officer has reasonable grounds for suspecting that it directly or indirectly represents any person's proceeds of criminal conduct or is intended by any person for use in any criminal conduct.
